Introduction to Big Data Analytics using Spark and Python
Held at J.P. Morgan’s office and run in collaboration with the Technology division of JPMorgan Chase and Cambridge Spark, this one-day course will provide a hands-on introduction to the Big Data ecosystem, Hadoop and Apache Spark in practice. Through practical activities, you will learn how to apply Apache Spark on a range of real-world datasets to process and analyse data at scale.At the end of the day, there will be a competition where you get to consolidate what you have learnt on a new dataset. Then after the competition finishes at 6pm, there will be networking drinks!
After taking the workshop you will be able to
- Understand the challenges in the Big Data ecosystem
- Describe the fundamentals of the Hadoop ecosystem
- Use the core Spark APIs to express data processing queries
- Understand how you can leverage cloud technologies such as Amazon EMR to process large data sets

You must be studying at a UK-based university and be comfortable with basic programming concepts. Familiarity with Python is a bonus.
